About Bowman and Brooke LLP
Bowman and Brooke LLP is a nationally recognized trial firm with one of the largest product liability practices in the country with 12 offices around the country.
Prior to CTERA, the firm leveraged NetApp filers to store both operational and matter-related data. Discovery plays an important role during the pre-trial phase during which documents, records, and other evidence is collected. Discovery has shifted from boxes of papers to electronic files as businesses continue to increasingly rely on technology to increase productivity. The ever increasing amount of data collected during discovery meant they would periodically need to add additional storage to their NetApp filers. A centralized NetApp filer provided fast LAN speed access to data for attorneys and staff located near the filer, but individuals in cities farther away were hampered by the WAN speed access to data.
The CTERA Solution
Bowman and Brooke knew there had to be a better way to meet increasing storage needs of the firm and improve the user experience when accessing the data. They evaluated solutions from NetApp, HP, and others before settling on CTERA. They found CTERA was uniquely situated to meet the storage needs of the firm. Managed cloud storage provided them with the ability to scale on demand without the need for large capital investments. By installing CTERA Edge Filers in each office, their attorneys and staff have LAN speed access to the data they need by caching just the subset of data used by individuals in that office.
The firm is currently managing over 295 TBs of data in its CTERA Global File Systems. This is an increase of over 100% from three years ago. This would not be possible without a scalable solution such as CTERA. They no longer hear complaints from their attorneys and staff about how long it takes to open documents and other files from their network drives.Download PDF
