CTERA delivers NT-ACL (Access Control Lists) enforcement across on-premises appliances and the cloud, a unique functionality that enables organizations to easily migrate legacy file server data from remote office file shares to desktop or laptop experiences while preserving original file structure and user access permissions.

This feature also enables CTERA customers to seamlessly redirect users to the same files and folders in the cloud as part of CTERA Zero-Minute Disaster Recovery.

Users can create, edit, and collaborate on Office 365 files  stored behind the firewall on the CTERA platform, ensuring IT does not relinquish security or privacy of corporate information. End-users can create new Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files from within the CTERA web browser interface, simultaneously edit documents with other users, and track changes in real-time.

CTERA enterprise file sharing software enables users to easily create links to files and folders as well as create ad hoc shared workspaces that can be made available via the web or synced to endpoints or CTERA Cloud Storage Gateways.

CTERA data protection works with CTERA endpoint and servers backup agents and Cloud Storage Gateways to take capacity-efficient and network-optimized snapshots. Once the first backup is complete, each additional backup process is very fast as the platform only needs to capture the delta. Cloud Seeding can also be used to ship backups to the cloud via sneakernet to rapidly complete the first (and only) “full”.

CTERA server data protection agents feature the ability to take application-consistent backups and provide file level recovery of Windows Server applications including: Microsoft Active Directory, DFS, Exchange, SharePoint, and SQL Server

CTERA agents, mobile apps and Cloud Storage Gateways all feature the ability to globally deduplicate data within a secure tenant environment.  Before being sent to the cloud, transfers are optimized with block-level deduplication and compression to reduce network traffic, enhance user performance and minimize the cost and consumption of cloud storage.

Users and groups can be authenticated via Active Directory, LDAP and SAML. Encryption levels for the CTERA Enterprise File Services Platform (Gateway, Agent (Drive), and Portal) have been validated to meet Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) Publication 140-2 standards by an accredited testing laboratory (Certificate #2815), meeting the requirements of U.S. government departments, regulated industries, and other public and private organizations.

External file sharing and collaboration functionality reduces leakage of sensitive data by enabling IT administrators to:

• Disallow external file sharing with specific domains according to an IT-defined security policy based on user profiles or groups
• Offer a preview-only method of file sharing, where users cannot download, print, or copy certain files shared with them
• Mitigate the risks of document screen capture by displaying the recipient’s name as a watermark on the document preview

Enterprise IT controls can define what files are stored and establish sharing privileges on what users and groups can share data internally and externally.

Tenants and users can generate and manage their own dedicated keys to provide the highest levels of data isolation and security.
