CTERA Portal integrates with antivirus vendors through the ICAP protocol for file scanning, in order to ensure data protection. McAfee Web Gateway and Symantec Protection Engine are supported. Check with CTERA Support (http://www.ctera.com/support) if you use another antivirus vendor.
Using the portal subscription plans, you can activate or deactivate the antivirus feature for specific virtual portals.
When antivirus is activated, files are scanned for malware automatically and transparently, before they are downloaded from the portal. Backup sets from CTERA gateways can be scanned for malware by setting a dedicated small footprint computer that triggers scans using the REST API, described in the CTERA Portal API Developer Guide. This is a passive, log-only, scan mode, since backup sets are readonly.
If an infected file is found, the user who owns the file receives an email notification indicating that malware was blocked and specifying the file name. A copy of the infected file is quarantined so that the administrator determine if any action is necessary.
Virtual portal administrators can view files that are quarantined by the antivirus servers, the Cloud Drive location and the owner (the user who downloaded the files).
