Enabling Support For Link Failover
The CTERA HC400 gateway has two 10GbE Ethernet ports. You can use both these ports to enable link failover, whereby if one interface fails, the server reestablishes a link to the network using the other interface. This is configured by configuring NIC Teaming in ESXi.
To enable link failover:
1 Connect Ethernet, or fiber, cables to both the 10GbE Ethernet ports, or fiber ports, at the back of the HC400.
2 Log in to the VMware Host Client, as described in Monitoring the Gateway From the VMware Host Client.
3 In the VMware Host Client, select Networking in the Navigator and select the CTERA 10GbE virtual switch.
The Edit standard virtual switch window is displayed.
4 Click Add uplink and enter a name for the new uplink and choose the option for the link.
5 Expand NIC teaming and make sure Load balancing is set to Route based on originating port ID.
6 Click Save.
Note: A reboot is not required.
If a physical network cable is disconnected access to the gateway continues transparently as all SMB connections and the browser user interface remain connected.
